Good for Austin
The Austin City Limits Music Festival is a festival with a heart, and we like to wear it on our sleeves. The festival provides a great opportunity to reach out to fans to educate and perhaps influence their choices in a positive way. The producers feel that participation by some special organizations would add depth and richness to our event, and hopefully open a few eyes. We choose local organizations that have a strong presence in Austin year-round and work to benefit our town and our citizens, with efforts focused on music/musicians and the environment.
So, we found some good folks out there who want to make the world a better place. Please be sure to stop by the "Good for Austin" tent, located just east of the SoCo Art Market. It's a must-visit destination area within the festival grounds where fans can learn how they can be good citizens and make a positive difference.
The following organizations are featured in Good for Austin:
Austin Parks Foundation
Austin Parks Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to building partnerships, advocacy and action for parks. APF will present the 2006 Austin City Limits Music Festival and a portion of the proceeds will benefit their organization. Funds will be used for Zilker Park improvements and for parks projects across the city. This relationship will increase the opportunities for all Austinites to directly benefit from the popularity and success of the ACL Festival by putting more dollars into park system improvements and activities.
Health Alliance for Austin Musicians
The mission of the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians is to provide access to affordable health care for Austin's uninsured musicians, focusing on prevention and wellness.
Austin is the "Live Music Capital of the World," yet many professional working musicians are self-employed and rarely have access to health insurance. Without insurance, they can't afford preventive health care, including primary medical care, basic dental services and mental health counseling."
Plug-in Partners
 |
The City of Austin is conducting a national grassroots campaign designed to demonstrate to automakers that a market for flexible-fuel Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) exists today. Plug-in Partners wants to spread the message that these vehicles have the potential to save fuel costs for citizens and consumers, reduce greenhouse gases and other air pollutants and reduce American dependence on foreign oil.
