Greening

The Green Scene

The Festival is once again 100% carbon neutral event thanks to the assistance of Green Mountain Energy. We also look at festival operations and continue to work to lessen the Festival’s environmental impact through creative recycling programs, use of biodiesel, bans on styrofoam and plastic bags, and much more.

Zip By the Honda Eco Zone

Stop by to take a look at the new 2010 Honda Insight hybrid technology, from the inside out. Use your newfound insight (pun intended) to spin the Big Prize Wheel and win cool eco-conscious prizes.

Rock & Recycle

By adding the $3.00 ACLMF BeGreen(sm) Fan Tag to a ticket, you’ll receive 300 kWh of renewable energy credits. This offsets 339 pounds of CO2 emissions that contribute to global warming. That’s like...

  • Not driving a car 433 miles, or
  • Not flying a 1375 miles, or
  • The annual eco-benefit of 24 trees

At the Festival, stop by the Green Mountain kiosk to purchase your Fan Tag on the spot, or choose to offset your carbon impact when you purchase your ACLMF ticket online.

In 2008, over 4,000 ACLMF fans joined together to purchase Fan Tags, helping to avoid 3,250 metric tons of C02. What kind of impact can this simple act have? Together, these ACLMF fans’ purchase equaled not driving a car over 7.3 million miles or the annual carbon absorption of more than 394,500 trees. In addition, this had the same environmental impact as recycling over 16.1 million aluminum cans or taking 584 cars off the road. Our goal for ACL 2009: 5,000 Fan Tags. Help us make a difference.

More Rock. Less Plastic.

While visiting the Green Scene, be sure to visit Schlumpy, a gigantic, 8-foot rolling ball of plastic bags. Join other ACLMF fans to take the Billion Bag Pledge – a nationwide call to use one billion fewer plastic bags—and pose for a photo with Schlumpy. Presented by our friends at BlueAvocado (makers of an eco-chic reusable grocery shopping system), look for the giant plastic ball, take the pledge, and earn a chance to win a hip, collapsible shopping tote!

Check out Schlumpy schlepping across the country, including our own Austin, Texas, below:

Full Circle

Full Circle

Is the cup half empty, or half full? Is an old tire waste, or resource?  The festival features a new and innovative greening installation, Full Circle.  You’ll find it right next to the Barton Springs entrance.   Stop by and see what the thinkers, designers and craftspeople at Rain Lily Design and Landscaping and Farmhouse Delivery find delightful about waste as resource in the urban homestead."

Travel Green

Ride the festival shuttle. Use pedal power. Carpool. Take a hike. The Festival grounds are near downtown and the city’s Hike and Bike Trail. Use eco-friendly ways to come and go and join thousands of others to green up your travel.
