Young and bassist Jon Jameson, formerly of San Diego indie-rock band Noise Ratchet, began jamming with devil-may-care street busker Matt Vasquez and fledgling guitarist Sean Walker. Pianist Kelly Winrich joined soon after, and a pair of EPs and tours with the likes of the Cold War Kids, Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah! and Dr. Dog helped the young band spread its gospel of soulful, eclectic folk-rock beyond the Golden State. Delta Spirit independently released its full-length debut, the aptly titled Ode to Sunshine, last year.
