Few band names manage to capture the sound and vision of an act better than the Octopus Project. Youve heard the theory on how 100 monkeys banging away on typewriters could eventually bang out a great novel? Well, imagine what just one particularly dexterous octopus could do if it was locked in a roomful of musical instruments. Thats not to say that this quartet from Austin happens upon its adventurous but hauntingly beautiful soundscapes by dumb luck; theyre all exceptionally gifted musicians, known to swap instruments with each other just to keep things interesting (though Yvonne Lambert is the acclaimed Theremin master of the group). The Octopus Project has three full-length CDs to its credit (the most recent being last years acclaimed Hello, Avalanche) and a handful of Austin Music Awards, including nods for Best Experimental Band, Best Instrumental Band and Best Indie Band.
