If you really wanted to nit-pick the matter, Shooter Jennings would probably be more of a true rebel if he had grown up to be a banker, lawyer, doctor, police officer or maybe even a soulless Nashville record executive instead of a chip-off-the-old-block outlaw country singer-songwriter just like his legendary parents, Jessi Colter and the late Waylon Jennings. But who can blame the guy for sticking with a family tradition that cool, especially when he so obviously inherited his folks gift for song and love for the life less ordinary? Actually, Jennings did begin his career far closer to the rock side of the country-rock divide than the country side his parents were best known for; he spent most of the 90s fronting the Los Angeles-based Southern rock band Stargunn. But his career didnt really take off until after he fully embraced his country soul with his 2005 solo debut, Put the O Back in Country. There was still plenty of rock (and rock n roll attitude) in his music as further evidenced on 2006s Electric Rodeo and last years The Wolf but fact is, thats just always been in his blood, too.
