As a child prodigy in his native Cuba, pianist Ignacio Nachito Herrera performed Rachmaninoffs Concerto No. 2 with the Havana Symphony Orchestra. He went on to study more traditional Cuban rhythms under such legendary artists as Rubén Gonazález, Jorge Gomez Labraña and Frank Fernández, leading to his stint as musical director of the Tropicana in his 20s and, in the late 90s, as a member of the internationally acclaimed Cubanismo. Although hes called Minnesota home since 2002, Herrera is rightfully regarded as one of the brightest stars in the Latin jazz universe.
