The music of Philadelphias Man Man is zany, madcap and more than a little loony, though not necessarily in the funny hah-hah sense. Its the chaotic sound of hell in a hand basket, served up by men with beards and uniform white shirts who insist on going by pseudonyms like Honus Honus, Pow Pow, Critter Cat, Sergei Sogay and Chang Wang. Its the kind of music commonly referred to as experimental, while Man Man itself is the kind of musical outfit for which the pretentiously arty term collective somehow seems more apt than the more humdrum band. But dont let any of that stuff scare you away, because whatever the hell it is that Man Man does, its as irresistible on record (be it 2004s The Man in a Blue Turban With a Face, 2006s Six Demon Bag or this years Rabbit Habits) as it is at their unforgettable live performances.
