Brazils CSS, the first South American band signed to Seattles Sub Pop, kicks out horny, electro-punk jams with plenty of bounce to the international ounce. The band whose full name, Cansei de Ser Sexy, improbably translates to Tired of Being Sexy formed as an art-school project, which helps explain why theyre so good at scavenging pop-culture history for usable debris. But dont think CSS are so brainy that they cant have a good time; their 2006 self-titled debut moves quickly from one Technicolor party tune to the next. The deliciously infectious first single, Lets Make Love and Listen to Death From Above, helped inflame new wave with its spooky Scooby-Do-like synths and funked-up bass line. More recently, the same albums arresting Music Is My Hot Hot Sex was featured in a commercial for Apples iPod Touch.
