One of the most revered and progressive musical outfits to come out of the U.K. in the last 20 years, Spiritualized makes space music with soul. Launched by singer, guitarist and songwriter Jason Pierce in the waning days of his previous band, Spacemen 3, Spiritualizeds early EPs and first two studio albums, 1992s Lazer Guided Melodies and 1995s Pure Phase, showcased his considerable gift for constructing meticulously detailed headphone symphonies. But it wasnt until 1997s landmark Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space that the full scope of Pierces creative vision began to show itself, with gospel, soul and blues influences (along with guests like Dr. John and famed Memphis studio pro Jim Dickinson) mixed seamlessly into the bands epic symphonic soundscapes.  The 2001 follow-up, Let It Come Down, was even more ambitious, with Pierce utilizing more than 120 musicians to build the albums wall of sound. Then, on 2003s aptly titled Let It Come Down, he tore the wall down and rocked through the rubble. Spiritualized fans will find out where J. Spaceman will boldly go next when the bands sixth studio album, Songs in A&E, reaches American shores in June.
