Formed in 2000, Hot Chip is a British five-piece that has been favorably compared to New Order and even Sir Paul McCartney (albeit Macca at his most eccentric and/or simply batty). The electro-pop outfit has produced three well-received EPs and three equally lauded full-lengths, including 2006s Mercury Music Prize shortlisted The Warning, which featured NMEs pick for the years best single, Over and Over. Filled with blips and bleeps, strummy guitars, piano and techno beats, Hot Chips music is unabashedly quirky, playful and arty and, more often than not, fun to dance to. Made in the Dark pulses with an unusual intelligence and creative bravery, noted Q magazine of the bands latest album. Or, as Spin put it, This is some serious whimsy.
