Gypsy-punks Gogol Bordello have been going for almost a decade, but the wider world got to know them when frontman Eugene Hütz and violinist Sergey Ryabtsev joined Madonna onstage at the London installment of Live Earth in 2007. The Eastern European immigrants, who formed their ensemble in New York City, joined Madge in front of an audience of millions, singing her song La Isla Bonita mixed in with traditional gypsy song, Lela Pala Tute. The eight-member outfit has released four albums, including 2005s Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike, which netted heavy praise from Spin and Pitchfork, the later awarding it a 7.8 on their notoriously grueling scale. Recently, Gogol Bordello has been touring in support of 2007s Super Taranta! But Hütz also took time to help out Madonna once again, appearing in her directorial debut, the short film Filth and Wisdom.
