Being identical twin Canadian singer-songwriters isnt always easy. For starters, getting someone to take you seriously is quite a feat. But after the first listen to Tegan and Sara, its impossible to dismiss them as a novelty act. After all, it wasnt Tegan and Sara Quinns goofy stage banter, cute matching faces and hip haircuts that won them tours with the likes of the Killers, Ryan Adams, Rufus Wainwright, Neil Young, and Ben Folds; it was the combination of bright, catchy songwriting and intense and angelic harmonies over stripped-down guitar and spot-on drumming and bass. Of course, theyve evolved a good deal since over the years, too. Although their first two albums, 2000s This Business of Art and 2002s If It Was You, showcased their folksy roots, 2004s So Jealous and last summers The Con, produced by Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie, proved the Quinn sisters to be equally confident on more assertive (and danceable) pop ground.
