When word first got out a few years ago that Jack White was working on an album that would feature neither drummer Meg White or the name the White Stripes, some of his less trusting fans got a little worried. Then rumor was followed by the killer tune Steady as She Goes, and it was clear White was onto something good with the Raconteurs project. Teamed with acclaimed solo artist Brendan Benson and bassist Jack Lawrence and drummer Patrick Keeler from Ohios bluesy garage rockers the Greenhornes, White sounded freshly inspired throughout the bands 2006 debut, Broken Boy Soldiers. A series of tours were rapturously received as the Raconteurs embellished and extended their fuzzy bluesy rock onstage. White made such a dashing Raconteur, in fact, that it was almost a shame to see him return to his day job as a White Stripe for last years Icky Thump. Fortunately, that set rocked, too. And best of all, so does Consolers of the Lonely, the Raconteurs second album which White, Benson and the rest of the boys launched from seemingly out of nowhere in late March. Apparently this thrilling yarn is just getting started.
