Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno
(More Songs about Buildings and Food, Fear of Music, Remain in Light, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts)

If David Byrne had never recorded another note of music following the breakup of the Talking Heads at the end of the 80s, his legacy as one of the most enigmatic and inventive artists of the rock era would still be secure. As a matter of fact, despite all the wonderful music hes made ever since, odds are that hell still ultimately be best remembered as the herky-jerky odd ball in the video for Once in a Lifetime or for his suitably spastic, solo-acoustic-with-boombox performance of Psycho Killer at the beginning of Jonathan Demmes Talking Heads concert film, Stop Making Sense. But thats not a knock on Byrnes post-Heads output so much as its a testament to the enduring impact of his skewed genius; Byrnes musical sensibility is so unique and unconventional that the even his most popular art from a quarter-century ago still seems fresh and singularly nonsensical today. And hes only gotten more adventurous since, producing a solo catalog highlighted by such diversely rewarding releases as 1989s Latin-inspired Rei Momo, 1997s trip-hoppin Feelings and his two most recent back-to-back triumphs of lush, playful pop, 2001s Look Into the Eyeball and 2004s Grown Backwards.
