Bio
Jidenna’s birth name— which means “embracing the father” in the Igbo language of Nigeria, his father’s homeland— could be seen as foreshadowing his future. Eventually earning the nickname “Chief,” a title embodying his character and role in the social club Fear & Fancy that he co-founded, Jidenna’s multi-faceted background and a touch of his father’s royal blood influence his cosmopolitan and classy take on hip-hop. With an origin story that covers multiple continents and coasts, from roots in Nigeria and Boston to the Bay Area and Brooklyn, Jidenna is a true Master of Ceremonies, moving effortlessly between worlds that rarely collide. Intertwining personal narrative and sociopolitical commentary with a swanky groove, Jidenna’s music compels you to tune in and turn up, to party and ponder. The youngest son of a Nigerian chief and an American anthropologist, Jidenna spent his formative years in Nigeria and emigrated to the United States with his mother. Humble beginnings Stateside gave way to personal triumph as Jidenna earned his way into Stanford University, where he connected with like-minded, free-spirited souls and brought Fear & Fancy, a collective of entrepreneurs, activists, educators, and artists, to life. While in the Bay Area, Jidenna fatefully met Janelle Monae, quickly recognizing one another as kindred spirits. The core Fear & Fancy team relocated to Flatbush, Brooklyn and established a name for itself in New York, their legendary soirees and masquerade parties being whispered about around town— in particular, the ringleader-like skills of Jidenna, whose talents as a performer had reached incredible heights. Signing with Wondaland Records in 2014, Jidenna’s career has been driven by the power of creating and building together with a tribe. With the release and early success of “Classic Man,” a call to arms for dignified gentlemen of all backgrounds and means, Jidenna’s tribe continues to grow.

“Thanks for coming, man. Want some bum juice?”

“What the fuck is in this shit?”

“Tampico and Everclear. It’s pretty gross.”

When they started in 2009, seeing FIDLAR meant showing up to a house party and eventually having this exchange with one of them. Zac Carper, The bands guitarist and singer (well, one of ‘em) would hand you a red cup , throw an arm around your neck and probably end up blurting out how fucked up he was. Their set list would read more like a grocery list of party supplies than a list of songs: “Cocaine. Cheap Beer. Chinese weed. Four Loko.”

After a few years of being a band Zac still plugs in his pedals attached to a skate deck (“Pedal board”, get it?) and says “Hi We’re FIDLAR: F-I-D-L-A-R. It means ‘Fuck It Dog, Life’s a Risk”. Seeing a FIDLAR set consists of drinking and dancing with people that are twice as drunk as you are while the band rips through songs about what they know best: The girl doesn’t call, my ex is a whore, I lost my phone, my car is a piece of shit, my friends are pieces of shit, I do too many drugs, I’m really awkward, I love Del Taco.

FIDLAR is Zac Carper, Elvis Kuehn, Brandon Schwartzel, and Max Kuehn. Elvis and Zac met at Kingsize Soundlabs in LA and recorded a ton of demos with the band before playing a live show. Their first show was on a FMLY bike ride at a skatepark in Culver City. Three years later the band has played with Black Lips, OFF!, Japanther and toured with The Hives. They’ve released two EP’s and just got back from touring Europe.

Listening to them, you can tell that the band did their homework on punk rock and seem dead set on inflicting lessons on anyone willing to listen. Any given song will give you a Germs influenced guitar solo, the catchy “Ooo’s” and “Ah’s” of The Misfits , and lyrics in the same family as Black Flag’s “Six Pack” and “TV Party” . On the same token they can just as easily be compared to any of the bands they cover (Blink 182, FEAR, CCR, Warron Zevon), yet it all comes across entirely their own: Surfier, Faster, more fuzzed out, more personal and a lot more drunk.

FIDLAR’s first LP is coming out via Mom + Pop and Wichita recordings. Recorded at their home studio, The album is set to be 14 tracks long and out January 22nd. FIDLAR are your dumbass friends that find a beer, scrape the shit off their shoes, and tell you how the hardest thing about waking up late and trying not to fuck up your life is having to do it with no job, no money and everyone bumming your cigarettes.

“A master of conjuring up images that resonate with the young ones.” — Entertainment Weekly

“He has a remarkable ability to see through a child’s eyes… the Judy Blume of kiddie rock” — New York Times

“Hands down the best songwriter in the genre.” — USA Today

Like a scene from “Groundhog Day,” the event repeats itself over and over. Bass and drums pound out the beat in perfect unison. Bodies spring to their feet and rush the stage; jumping, dancing and bouncing off each other like bumper cars. The concertgoers behave like children. This should come as no surprise, because they are children, participating in the kiddie mosh pit found at nearly every Justin Roberts concert.

GRAMMY Nominated, Justin Roberts is truly one of the “all-stars” of the indie family music scene. He logs thousands of miles on the road each year, leading some to call him the hardest working man in children’s show business. With numerous national awards and recognition and a devoted fan base, Justin and The Not Ready for Naptime Players dish out unexpectedly intelligent and whimsically rocking music for kids and their parents.

Justin’s latest CD Recess rocks with gigantic electric guitars, intricate vocal harmonies, and impossibly catchy melodies that will burrow deep into your brain. In his most unrestrained release yet, Justin explores the world from multiple perspectives – kids who love to play, the proud but exhaused parents of twins, and a loyal pet dog, just to name a few. Whether kids are jumping through the chalked boxes of “Hopscotch” or running around the playground to the triumphant electric rock of “Recess,” these 12 original songs will add energy to any day. The limited-edition CD Package includes a pop-up robot, and secret web links to craft activities and bonus media.

This ninth family music CD from Justin Roberts continues a hot streak that started in the early 1990s. Roberts began his music career in the Minneapolis-based indie-rock band Pimentos for Gus. He decided to moonlight (during the day) as a Montessori preschool teacher. It wasn’t long before Justin began writing and singing songs for a new generation of fans: his students. The kids immediately responded and inspired Justin to record some of his new songs and send them out to a few friends for Christmas. One of the gift recipients was Liam Davis, a college pal and music producer, who suggested that they record the songs professionally.

In 1997, Justin released his first CD, Great Big Sun, and the critics took note. Justin’s music was soon being compared to everyone from Elvis Costello and Fountains of Wayne to Paul Simon, ELO and Nick Lowe. By 2001, Justin had hit the road full time, doing what he loves most: playing music for appreciative crowds. Kiddie mosh pits broke out, word spread and shows started selling out. He has played at such renowned venues and festivals as NYC’s Symphony Space, DC’s National Geographic Live, LA’s Getty Museum, Seattle’s Moore Theater, Lollapalooza and Chicago’s Ravinia.

Justin has performed in front of millions of people on The Today Show, he’s featured on Nick Jr. TV, and his song “Get Me Some Glasses” was featured on a World Series broadcast. He’s also garnered kudos and raves from national media including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, People, Entertainment Weekly, and the Chicago Tribune.

Once again, Justin Roberts & the Not Ready for Naptime Players raise the bar for family music with a playground full of bright new songs for parents and kids to enjoy together. Roberts explores the joy and freedom of recess, the marvels of the imagination, and that unique combination of melancholy and wonder as school finally lets out for the summer.

Tim Kubart is best known as the “Tambourine Guy” from the viral music collective “Postmodern Jukebox.” With PMJ, he has performed at sold out shows across the country and internationally, most notably The Theatre at MSG, The Kennedy Center, Best Buy Theatre, LA’s Nokia Theatre, and London’s 02 Empire. His clowning around with PMJ has helped them reach over 200 million views on their YouTube page.

When not dancing with a tambourine, Tim hosts the only live morning show for preschoolers, “The Sunny Side Up Show,” on NBCUniversal’s Sprout channel. Alongside co-host Chica the Chicken, Tim sings songs, performs sketches, and celebrates everyday moments. Broadcasting every morning from Rockefeller Center in NYC makes the show a destination for special guests; favorite visitors include OK GO, Lentil the Dog, Matt Lauer, Wrangler the Dog, and the First Lady, Mrs. Obama. Tim made his Sprout debut in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2013.

Tim discovered his love for family music volunteering in the nursery of an NYC homeless shelter during college. His “indie pop for all ages” aims to entertain without drawing any kid-friendly or adult-friendly lines. Tim and his songwriting partner Matt Puckett weave their own childhood memories through textured pop tunes with lyrics that bridge the gap between innocence and wisdom.

He has released two albums for families, most recently “Anthems for Adventure” in 2013. Songs from that album have spent multiple weeks at #1 on SiriusXM KiDS Place Live, and Tim and his band have played sold out shows at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn Bowl, Symphony Space, and the Smithsonian.

His new album, “Home” will be released this coming fall alongside a multi-city tour, with Austin being one of the stops.

For ACL, Tim’s backing band will quadruple in size to include local orchestral indie-born band “Mother Falcon.” The 18-piece ensemble includes several multi-instrumentalists, and is one of the top lives acts in Austin, selling out Antone’s, The Mohawk, the Parish and more.

Tim lives and rides his bike in Brooklyn. Throughout all of his work, his main mission is to spread kindness and joy.

It’s impossible to explain the exceptional talents of Emi Sunshine, a 10-year-old East Tennessee prodigy who has captured the nation’s attention as a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Steeped in Appalachian music, she is a true vocal stylist, one who instinctively knows how to interpret the nuances of a song with her impressive range. The Tennessean is just the latest to describe her as “an old soul,” noting, “Onstage, this soul’s presence is commanding and her singing voice authentic and folksy.” While her youth might remind many of Taylor Swift, a more apt comparison would be to artists such as Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss or members of the Carter Family.

Whether she’s performing on the Today show, the Grand Ole Opry or taking the stage at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium, she is fearless, confident and firm in her musical direction. As she says, she sings “old-time music,” but it’s her own unique blend of roots music that is equal parts Americana, bluegrass, gospel, and country, with a little bit of blues thrown in for good measure.

Offstage, Emilie Sunshine Hamilton is a typical 10-year-old girl who loves video games, pets and colorful clothes. She’s had a normal upbringing in Madisonville, Tenn., where her mother worked as a nurse and her father is a recording engineer. But when she begins singing, playing or writing, something else takes over, a phenomenon that began before she could talk. As soon as Emi was old enough to walk down the aisle, she began singing in church. Her parents filled the house with music by Buddy Miller, Johnny and June Carter Cash and Emmylou Harris, and her musical tastes were formed. Those influences served as a foundation on which she built her own sound. “It’s kind of what came out,” she says of her sound. “I always loved that music and I thought, ‘That’s what I wanted to play. This is what I want to do.’”

Emi, who has a passionate following on social media, remains unaware of much of the whirlwind swirling around her. Her career moves will be dictated not by opportunities, but integrity. After coming off a year where many of her dreams came true, Emi is quickly creating new dreams and plans. But her ultimate goal remains the same: “I just want everybody to know who I am.”

The Pop Ups (Jason Rabinowitz and Jacob Stein) are a two-time-GRAMMYnominated, Brooklyn-based musical duo which the Wall Street Journal says “reflects the creativity percolating on the independent children’s music scene.” Time Out New York Kids recognizes them as one of the top 15 kids’ music bands in the nation. In 2014, the duo made their national TV debut on Sprout’s “Sunny Side Up Show,” and released their GRAMMY-nominated album, Appetite for Construction.

Jason Rabinowitz, a performer and dad who has appeared on Broadway (“One Man Two Guvnors” and Encores! City Center), and Jacob Stein (an artist and musician who has taught at Columbia University) have been creative collaborators for several years now.

Not content to stand still onstage playing their guitars, The Pop Ups perform using cardboard props, hand-painted sets, and a colorful cast of original puppets, crafting a world of magic that engages, educates and delights all ages. The Pop Ups perform regularly at venues in the New York City area and also tour regionally, including stops along the Yo Gabba Gabba Live tour at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.

“Brooklyn duo The Pop-Ups take the listeners back to 1985… if MTV had a kids music channel in their video heyday, this song, “All These Shapes,” would have been in constant rotation….The Pop-Ups know that you don’t need your parent’s smart phone to have the world at your fingertips.” – NPR, All Things Considered

When Tyree Morris created space to speak life and healing into a group of broken singers from across Denver he had no idea that almost a decade later this ministry would become his mission.

Today the arranger, songwriter and minister of the Gospel is blazing a trail across the U.S. with his ensemble – singing for church, conference and music festival events tipping 70,000 in attendance. These urban contemporaries offer a style that fuses Gospel, Hip-Hop, R&B, Retro-Funk, Jazz and nuances of Neo-Soul into an electrifying performance that is engaging, uninhibited and life-giving. When asked to describe Ty & the crew countless numbers of fans have simply summed it up as “The H.I.T. Squad.”

And while the musical style of Hearts of Worship is broad in scope, their mission is streamline and intentional – to use a non-traditional approach to music ministry to lead both believers and non-believers into the likeness of Christ.

The group’s performances include appearances at high-profile music festivals such as the L.A. Country Fair, Austin City Limits, Heavenfest and the Vail Jazz Festival; as well as multiple House of Blues locations. Additionally, they have opened for events featuring gospel industry stand-outs Rance Allen, Moses Tyson, Vashawn Mitchell, Da Truth.

Tyree Morris & Hearts of Worship celebrated the release of The Chronicles of Praise and Worship in 2009, which garnered them national distribution through Roo Records. They released their second project, We Declare in 2014, available for purchase on every online music distribution. Visit the music page to get a feel for the album now.
