In Zilker Park, next door to the ACL Festival grounds, you can dig for dinosaur bones in the massive Dino Pit at the Austin Nature and Science Center. Check out the exhibits for some prehistoric knowledge.
Soak It In
Once the sunshine arrives, take a dip at Deep Eddy Pool, the oldest swimming pool in Texas. Be sure to bring a blanket to set up a spot for the family to soak in some rays. Fun facts:

Drive to the Mueller neighborhood to Contigo for a nosh with the kids. Close by is also The Thinkery, Austin’s new children’s museum, and the Mueller Pond, where you can feed the ducks or romp on the playground.
Discover the Story of Texas at the Bullock Texas State History Museum, which features a massive IMAX Theatre for 2-D and 3-D movies. For a sweet treat afterwards, stop by Amy’s Ice Creams. Don’t forget to ask them to do a trick!
