In the days leading up to the Festival, we will be showcasing installments from a special artist discovery series for bands playing the Austin City Limits Music Festival this weekend. Today, we feature an exclusive track from Two Door Cinema Club.
Two Door Cinema Club are a trio from Northern Ireland who make sweet-voiced dance rock in the vein of We Are Scientists. Vocalist/guitarist Alex Trimble, bassist Kevin Baird and guitarist Sam Halliday met when they were 15, and opted out of university in favor of releasing their debut EP, Four Words to Stand On, in January of 2009. A careful reader will have noticed the absence of a drummer in the band’s official lineup.
The guys created their EP with the help of a laptop, a choice Trimble explains “was born of necessity at first because we didn’t know any other drummers. We weren’t sure it would work but we grew to love it.” The French label Kitsune loved it, too, and released the EP to positive reviews. The group opened for Phoenix at stops in the U.S., and released their full-length, Tourist History, on Glassnote in April.
